Components of GROW
Individual Vegetable Gardening
- Participating individuals will receive their own vegetable garden in a pot for his or her patio or yard. This container garden will have enough plants to provide fresh vegetables for 30 meals. More important, this is an activity that an individual or an entire family can participate in and benefit from the success of the results, continuing from year to year as an ongoing family project.
- The garden kits will include everything necessary to start a garden, including the plants, pot, soil and basic gardening instructions. CHS will organize, assemble and arrange for distribution of the gardening kits.
- Participants will receive regular gardening tips and trends from CHS through email newsletters and website blogs, providing useful information that can be applied to their vegetable container gardens, focusing on the growing and cooking of fresh produce.
Charitable Vegetable Gardening
- Container vegetable gardens will be created for at least three non-profit organizations, where gardening can provide intangible emotional benefits in additional to nutritional benefits. For example, senior living facilities, homes for troubled youth, housing communities for family of veterans and children in area hospitals.
